DRAFT-AMENDMENT 1:

FINAL PHOTOSTORY AMENDMENT 1:

SCRIPT:
1st Amendment
The first amendment states that congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people to peaceably assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

This amendment was necessary, due to the fact that it was the only reason people agreed to pass the constitution- the Bill of Rights.

The Bill of Rights was promised to be the first amendment created after the Constitution passed.

The 1st Amendment set into place basic rights given to the citizens of the United States and protect those rights from being taken away.

This was necessary because it protected the people and gave the people what America is most known for- freedom.

The first amendment is still used to this day. Many people utilize it in a court of law if they feel their rights have been violated.

The case of Texas v. Johnson, involved a man who was convicted for burning the American flag as a form of protest.

The Supreme Court overturned his conviction and ruled that no form of expression can be banned, just because “society finds the idea itself offensive or disagreeable”.

In countries such as Afghanistan, where freedom is limited, people tend to rebel much more against the government and complete chaos takes over.

For people without this amendment, it might be tough to do the things that we enjoy doing in our free time in America such as going to church, or even listening to music.

AMENDMENT 19 ESSAY:
Amendment 19- Women’s Suffrage
The 19th Amendment is one of the most significant amendments for females listed in the constitution. The 19th Amendment states the citizens of the United States of America’s right to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any States on account of sex. It also states congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation. This amendment was strongly petitioned for by Women’s Rights activists in hopes of one day being able to vote- like men. These women strived for equality and believed that the female should have every right that the male was privileged with. This amendment finally demonstrated equality for the man and the woman alike. The image put in place for women during this time was a stereotypical house-wife whom was compliant and was only concerned with her family and her home. Many women did not like having this image put in place for them, and thought it to be a pre-cursor to even less equality in the future. The creation of the 19th amendment sparked an increase in the voting population with a total of 8 million female votes in the first election women were ever allowed to vote in.
